Meet Dr. Drewno

Dr. Allison Drewno is a licensed clinical psychologist and forensic psychologist in the District of Columbia. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, a Master’s degree from The New School, and a Doctorate from The American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. Dr. Drewno has worked in a range of outpatient and inpatient clinical settings with adults, adolescents, and children. She completed clinical practica at Beth Israel Medical Center’s detox unit (NYC), at Harbor Light Center’s residential treatment facility, at Clinical Neuropsychology Services (a private practice), and at the DC Superior Court’s Child Guidance Clinic. Dr. Drewno completed an APA-accredited internship at Springfield Hospital Center and a forensic-track post-doctoral fellowship at Saint Elizabeths Hospital. 

Dr. Drewno uses an integrative approach to psychotherapy tailored to clients’ unique needs and clinical presentations.  With a foundation in psychodynamic theory (and its premise that past interpersonal experiences can impact the present), Dr. Drewno uses a gentle, client-centered, Rogerian style characterized by attunement, empathy, and nonjudgmental acceptance. Her approach to treatment is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and substance use-informed, and she adheres to harm-reduction principles to promote healing and wellness.

Dr. Drewno works with individuals facing issues such as complex trauma, grief & loss, postpartum issues, depression/mood dysregulation, anxiety, severe mental illness, substance use, insomnia, relationship difficulties, and personality issues. She also assists individuals with diabetes management, bariatric surgery preparation, and spinal cord stimulator surgery preparation. Her doctoral dissertation was entitled A Developmental Neuropsychological Conceptualization of Complex Trauma Presentation and its Treatment. Dr. Drewno’s research interests involve understanding the impact of traumatic experiences on the developing brain’s structures and functions, as well as their impact on cognitions, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and personality. 

Dr. Drewno is experienced in providing comprehensive psychological, psychoeducational, neuropsychological, and forensic assessment services to children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Drewno provides diagnostic clarification related to cognitive abilities, ADHD, autism, learning disorders, personality issues, and other mental health disorders.
